Calara

Calara is a constructed world, the fourth planet in a system known as Tihalat whose star is the green Uśil. Tihalat is situated in the outer edge of the Perseus arm of the Milky Way galaxy.

Calara would seem quite strange to us Terrans for many reasons. 88% of it are covered with a purple ocean and it only has four continents above sea-level, called Arcufel and Istaren on the eastern hemisphere, and Etu and Ucrat on the western one.

The atmosphere contains more oxygen and carbon dioxide than the Terran one, and less nitrogen. There is a heavy green-house effect on the planet, possibly the cause of the Great Flood. The high oxygen is because of the great amount of photosynthesis of the zals and all sorts of other plants found on the planet. Temperatures are very uniform throughout the planet and the poles are not frozen. The moon Tiu is very small and moves very fast around Calara on a retrogade orbit, which means it rises in the west and sits in the east exactly twice in the 31,2 (Earth) hour long day. It is reddish during the first orbit and greenish in the second as seen from the ground. Many cultures therefore believe there are two moons.

The continents Arcufel and Istaren are for the most part arid and sandy and between them is a huge salt flat named Satranc. There is a bit more growth on Etu and Ucrat (though it is mostly fungal). The land is mostly inhabited by giant animals and fungi, there is little plantlife on dry land. Together the four continents almost form a circle; they extend from the north pole to the south pole, to the north pole effectively splitting the planet's ocean in two. The two oceans are called the Aluac natu (the red ocean) and Aluac śanatui (the purple ocean) by the Uscans, who inhabit the former.

The purple seas are the home of the planets intelligent inhabitants, Aluns and Lentucs, who live in gigantic tree-like plants called thales (usc. zaler) extending up to about five kilometers (around three miles) above the waves. The oceans and the thales are home to smaller animals and most aluns and lentucs and most plantlife. Thus, the dry land and the wet thales are very different ecosystems.

The Aluns are divided into six subspecies, all but two living exclusively in zals. Satranc is inhabited by the Sâdraŋ (or Satrancer as the Uscans call them) and some Falisorans have settled the western coasts of Istaren. Other subspecies are the Rasuir (including the Uscans and the Imuthans), the San (or Sàŋ), the Utarescians and the Turmen.

The Lentucs live only in the thales north-east of Arcufel in the Purple Ocean. They are much fewer and are not divided into any subspecies though they have numerous non-sentient ape-like relatives. While the Aluns are lemuroid in appearance, the Lentucs are similar to Terran Neanderthals. Both species have a fur covering most of their body.

In the past the planet was inhabited by yet another sentient species (or several ones, for all we know) know as the Foregoers (usc. Selacer). They were similar to dinosaurs in appearance but most of the bones and artifacts found are in bad condition and an accurate description cannot be made. They died out about 4,5 million years ago when the Great Flood began, when the rise of the sea-level began to engulf most of the planets dry land. Ruins of some of their metallic and plastic structures and buildings can be found scattered through the land areas.
